HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and all are ready for a great 2008. The show schedule is not complete at this point.
Right now we will have our Spring Classic show at Lake Waccamaw on April 26-27.
This show will be double judged each day. We have a tentative date for our Summer
Classic show in Arden for June 22-23. I hope to have solid dates to give you at the
banquet. There is a PHBA show pending at Lake Waccamaw in March hosted by
BBHA as I am sure many of you have seen on the PHBA website. Please note that
this show is NOT affiliated with NCPEA and WILL NOT count for NCPEA year
end awards. The board has been working hard to ensure that you will have good
shows in good locations so bear with us as we continue to work with facilities and
other APA’s on dates for our shows.
There are some open shows being planned for this year also to raise funds for
NCPEA and we will keep you updated on those dates and locations. Also, we will
be having a silent auction at each of our shows this year, so start asking local businesses
for donations or get your creative side working on items that we can sell to
help raise money for awards. Items do not necessarily have to be “horsey” so please
do what you can to help out with these fundraising auctions.
Our awards banquet will be held February 16 at the Asheboro Country Club. Come
expecting some great food and fellowship. The reservation form for the banquet is
included in this newsletter and available on our website. Please send in your reservation
as soon as possible. Dinner will be at 7pm and there will be a brief membership
meeting at 6:30pm to discuss a couple of items. Please make plans to attend.
The PHBA Convention will be in Lexington, Kentucky on March 12-15. If you are a
delegate and have not signed up for any committees please let me know and I will be
glad to direct you in the right direction.
Please make note of the NCPEA committee members list that is in this newsletter. I
will be glad to make changes or additions, just let me know by March 1 so we can
have this list finalized and posted on the website. Our committee members really
came together in 2007 and worked hard and for that I truly thank you. If you have
any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to give me or any board member a
call.
I look forward to seeing each of you soon,
Lowanda McDowell

Hey Everyone!
It’s time get showin’ again so don’t forget our show dates for 2007, we will be in Lake Waccamaw on April 28-29 with 3 judges each day; Arden on June 15-17 with 3 judges each day; a new show in Raleigh on August 11-12 with 2 judges each day and back in Arden on November 10-11 with 3 judges each day for our futurity. Don’t forget to start gathering auction items for the benefit auction at the June show and be sure to volunteer quickly when the sign up sheet for the Fiesta comes around. It is going to be a busy but fabulous year here in North Carolina so be sure to invite everyone to come show with us.
The year started off with a wonderful dinner at our 2006 Awards Banquet. This was held at the Asheboro Country Club on February 24. The Club outdid themselves with the food and I don’t think anyone left the slightest bit hungry. Before the dinner special service awards were given to Teri Stafford, Pat Proco and Steve Proco followed by a very special moment when Pat & Steve were presented with the funds dedicated to a named scholarship fund. For the first time since I have known Pat she was totally speechless not once but twice in a fifteen minute time period. We should all be proud that we have had such strong leadership for NCPEA since its inception. For those of you that have not yet contributed to the Pat & Steve Proco Designer Scholarship you may do so by writing a check to PHBA Youth Scholarship Fund and put Pat & Steve Proco on the memo line and send to my address at 1934 Old Humble Mill Road, Asheboro, NC 27205. The Scholarship Fund is a 501C-3 and is tax deductible. Scholarships are awarded each year at convention to students that apply, furnish the proper documentation and keep a grade point average of 3.0 or better. If you have any questions you may call me or Pat and we will be glad to get you answers or information.
PHBA Convention was held in Jacksonville, Florida on March 15-17 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the riverfront. It was a beautiful setting and the convention yielded many positive things to come. Be sure to watch your magazine for further details. At the benefit auction there were 4 items donated for the Pat & Steve Proco Designer Scholarship and they sold for a total of $1700. At this point, we are over ½ way to having the funds in order to be able to award a scholarship in their honor. Way to go NCPEA!!!!!!! I want to thank those who were able to attend the
convention this year. Along with Ken and myself, Ronnie & Joy Isley made the trip
with their daughter Emily.
The subcommittee planning our open show has done a great job in securing two open show dates this year. We will be having a PHA show on July 28 at Piedmont Saddle Club in Colfax. This will be joint effort with PHA and proceeds will be 50% to PHA; 25% to NCPEA and 25% to NCPEA-Youth. The second show will be on August 4 at Flintrock Farm. The proceeds there will be split 50/50 with NCPEA and
NCPEA-Youth. We will need volunteers to help make both of these benefit shows a success. Please contact Rebecca Hine to get signed up to volunteer. Also, be sure to tell everyone you know with a horse to come and show at these 2 shows. If they don’t show have them come out for some fun, fellowship and outstanding hotdogs and hamburgers. It has been a few years since NCPEA had any open shows for fundraisers but they always prove to be loads of fun so don’t miss either of them.
The Sponsorship Subcommittee, chaired by Roy Tilley, is still working hard so if you haven’t signed up for or sold some class
sponsorships you will need to beware of Roy. He will find you!
As I told you in the last newsletter, 2007 is a very special year for NCPEA as it is celebrating its 40th anniversary. This is certainly
something to celebrate and I challenge each of you to help out in a new area this year as one of your efforts to make
NCPEA the very best. There are so many opportunities to be involved and to help, don’t wait for someone to ask you to volunteer
just step up and let’s make our 40th year the year to volunteer.
